- Argo (2012) April 6, 2013So "Argo" should be on your list of movies to watch if you've missed it up to now. Be advised that the thrills come in bite-fulls and the story is much more about an ensemble cast than any one particular player. This has double feature written all over it. Pick up a couple of other movies while you're at it and if all goes South in a hurr […]rorydean

- I Melt With You (2011) March 1, 2013“I Melt With You” feels like the mid-life rights of passage you've heard about or are living, the runway that many men land and take off from. Gathered for many drinks with the best friends of their lives quickly becomes a dangerous Bacchanalia of doomed ritualizing, darkly lit and disturbing yet familiar to anyone who has ever fallen off the beaten pat […]rorydean

Skyline (2010)
Consider Skyline one of those films that stupefies, that kicks you in the groin like a ten-year old, that reminds you once again that films are a lot like those pictures of hamburgers in buses and Bart cars, life-sized, mouth-watering, and ultimately unsatisfying. But the worst part of all is the knowing that a ten million dollar catastrophe can produce $67 million dollars in profits which means Skyline 2 is somewhere nearby even when it shouldn’t be. Hereafter (2010)
Hereafter was described by someone as Eastwood’s best. I might go so far to say it is his worst but that doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to what he will do next or how he’ll change or stay the same, his cinematic language well-defined even when it fails to reach his audience. Continue reading
I Love You Phillip Morris (2010)
Do yourself a favor and avoid this movie like the public toilet seat that it is and spend your money on something that might actually give you a return on your investment – like a root canal. Continue reading

Country Strong (2010)
Country Strong succeeds despite every reason that it bogs down with needing to be everything for everyone and only really touching those who long to see specific heroes on the screen; these happen to wear cowboy hats and trip up easily, people singing about living, loving and moving on. At the end of it all when the lights fade to black and the relationships are either healed or fractured further, when love changes a little or not at all, when the once faded shines one last time and innocence avoids the pitfall just this time, Country Strong is just that because. Four Lions (2010)
Islamic Jihadists plotting to blow themselves up, and in due course succeeding to take innocent bystanders with them seems hardly palatable material for a comedy. Yet, with satirical plotting and witty, often hilarious slap-stick scenarios, British TV writer-director Chris Morris’ 2010 film Four Lions is decisively engaging. Continue reading
