Skyline (2010)

Consider Skyline one of those films that stupefies, that kicks you in the groin like a ten-year old, that reminds you once again that films are a lot like those pictures of hamburgers in buses and Bart cars, life-sized, mouth-watering, and ultimately unsatisfying. But the worst part of all is the knowing that a ten million dollar catastrophe can produce $67 million dollars in profits which means Skyline 2 is somewhere nearby even when it shouldn’t be. Country Strong (2010)

Country Strong succeeds despite every reason that it bogs down with needing to be everything for everyone and only really touching those who long to see specific heroes on the screen; these happen to wear cowboy hats and trip up easily, people singing about living, loving and moving on. At the end of it all when the lights fade to black and the relationships are either healed or fractured further, when love changes a little or not at all, when the once faded shines one last time and innocence avoids the pitfall just this time, Country Strong is just that because. Four Lions (2010)

Islamic Jihadists plotting to blow themselves up, and in due course succeeding to take innocent bystanders with them seems hardly palatable material for a comedy.
