- Argo (2012) April 6, 2013So "Argo" should be on your list of movies to watch if you've missed it up to now. Be advised that the thrills come in bite-fulls and the story is much more about an ensemble cast than any one particular player. This has double feature written all over it. Pick up a couple of other movies while you're at it and if all goes South in a hurr […]rorydean

- I Melt With You (2011) March 1, 2013“I Melt With You” feels like the mid-life rights of passage you've heard about or are living, the runway that many men land and take off from. Gathered for many drinks with the best friends of their lives quickly becomes a dangerous Bacchanalia of doomed ritualizing, darkly lit and disturbing yet familiar to anyone who has ever fallen off the beaten pat […]rorydean

Blu-ray: Not just a name but a beautiful future
he real value in Blu-ray media is not so much the physical disc itself but the gateway afforded by the whole system, including the player and the interoperability that connects your home system with the Internet. Continue reading
Green Lantern (2011) Blu-ray
As far as comic book adaptations, this might very well be a respectful interpretation of the original material, down to the hokey setup and ridiculous propaganda and universal truth-making, but none of which makes me like it any more. So much of what’s wrong with Green Lantern is what it “is” and “isn’t”, what is stuffed in a soggy plot that if removed, if excised by an articulate director like Christopher Nolan or Aronofsky would have amounted to anything else – instead of a franchise killer. Continue reading

Dolphin Tale (2011) Blu-ray
Dolphin Tale is about hope and humanity, about wanting to change and connect with the world around you. It’s better for not trying to answer questions about dysfunction and deliverance any more than it suggests wanting to change is a precursor to success. Mostly Dolphin Tale wants to make you feel good about feeling the same way at times in your own life, about facing difficult challenges and coming to road blocks that present no easy solutions. Sherlock Holmes (2011) Blu-ray
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is pure stage play theatrics, a throw back to vaudeville of the late 19th century when it was high on adrenaline and sweat in the immediacy of shared space where physical humor was as much about what you felt as what you observed. Action packed and performance driven, this is melodrama as meaningfully playful to elicit response and collaboration, drawing us in as participant, voyeur and one. Continue reading

Inception (2010) Blu-ray
Perhaps that is the answer after all is said and done, the true marker of accomplishment and success of a film, is that it lives in the audience gathered, the moments of it. Inception is not simply what is seen or what exists in whatever form it takes for you – theDVDor Blu-ray or the Digital Download, it is a fleeting reflection, the light flittering 24 frames of truth or something like it, experiences that ultimately affect us even if only briefly, a little bit, the emotional buoyancy of possibility.
