Writing for Warner Bros. as a Blu-ray Elite Team Member was pretty cool, still is, and definitely a shining highlight of 2012 thus far. The full spectrum of movies we received for the Blu-ray Elite Team Beta Program for Warner Bros. ranged from classics to modern favorites, grand stories and epic landscape spectacles, comedies to painful character biographies. IMAX Hubble (2011) Blu-ray
In order to fully appreciate this movie it’s important to check your expectations at the door, relax and think of this movie as a little adventure for the junior astronomer inside you, for the universe enthusiast and Star Trek junkie you don’t admit to but can’t deny. This doesn’t mean you have to own a telescope or harbor a deep down appreciation for Tribbles, teleporters and tight tunics on your Sci-Fi action heroes, but it’s helpful if you take an active participation in the experience. Contagion (2011) Blu-ray
Contagion is hardly the stuff of escapist joy or simple entertainment. Obsessed with clinical detail and distracted by stoic responsibility, Soderbergh robs the film of immediacy and makes intimacy a matter of geography instead of the result of meaningful relationships. Much of what is wrong with Contagion stems from what Soderbergh wanted to achieve as an “epic” yet “intimate” setting. Continue reading
