- Argo (2012) April 6, 2013So "Argo" should be on your list of movies to watch if you've missed it up to now. Be advised that the thrills come in bite-fulls and the story is much more about an ensemble cast than any one particular player. This has double feature written all over it. Pick up a couple of other movies while you're at it and if all goes South in a hurr […]rorydean

- I Melt With You (2011) March 1, 2013“I Melt With You” feels like the mid-life rights of passage you've heard about or are living, the runway that many men land and take off from. Gathered for many drinks with the best friends of their lives quickly becomes a dangerous Bacchanalia of doomed ritualizing, darkly lit and disturbing yet familiar to anyone who has ever fallen off the beaten pat […]rorydean

Fight Club (1999) a Fincherian tale
If you’re considering watching Fight Club for the first time, or even revisiting after a few years, you’re in good company. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton are top notch, not to mention Helena Bonham Carter who checks in as the twisted, darkly disturbed Marla Singer. Continue reading

Stone (2010)
Stone is a movie that relies on the cast to prop up the otherwise weak plot and unrealized emotional, psychological, and religious undertones that fuel interesting but incomplete characters. As is, the movie feels unfinished, as if we are just beginning to get to who these characters are when the rug of the climax is prematurely pulled out from under us. There has been a lot of lip service about the performances in this film but it is impossible for some to separate the actor from their work and as a result, undue favoritism gets in the way of seeing the flaws in the film and story. A problematic film just as easily derails talented actors, as lesser actors are lost in the voluminous details of a great script without the means or talent to plumb the depths to create a character that stands the test of time, both memorable and unique. On the Clock: Spike Lee’s 25th Hour
Where 25th Hour seems to get it most right is in proving the veracity of Spike Lee’s cinematic prowess and the way in which each of his films, however varied, contain a signature that only truly exists in the very best film craftsmen. It is easy to distinguish a Lee film, though one is not always completely satisfied by the revelation. Continue reading
Spike Lee’s Everyday Uncomfortableness
To narrow down the essence of Spike Lee is to first acknowledge the existence of an undeniable talent and unique cinematic style that is woven into the very fabric of his films. Like his peers, there is an obvious framework within his films, equal parts dedication to actors and a keen visual look and feel that accentuates as much as it nurtures the growing pains of his own childhood and personal experiences. The Incredible Hulk..and a franchise begins
While I don’t think all is lost in The Incredible Hulk, I do feel that there are quite a few holes in the production that have me perplexed. If you’re either of the aforementioned filmgoer, then you have to watch this film if for no other reason then to embark on yet another high budget thrill ride of action, devestation, and special effects.
