There are no finish lines or flashy answers to what troubles you in Premium Rush, no dating advice or practical instructions on how to ride or not to ride a fixed gear bicycle. The closest you come to learning anything comes from that tiny voice inside your head screaming at you to “GO FAST!”. So strap on the jet pack of whatever wheels can carry your imagination and escape the steering wheel or office cubicle before you get lost in the intersections of other people’s’ lives. Take Shelter (2011)

It’s easy to fault a film that stumbles for lack of extravagance, which is forgivable but a film that purposefully mires itself in tiny revelations involving breakfast sausage and excavators is neither cinematic nor particularly engaging. My Son My Son What Have Ye Done (2009)

My Son My Son What Have Ye Done (2009) is based loosely on the actual story of a disturbed San Diego man though this fact is only a rough sketch for director and co-writer Werner Herzog who quickly resorts to improvisation, spontaneity, and wackiness to get inside the head of the main character. What starts like a story on the five o’clock news and perhaps the outline for a serious character study, soon becomes a quirky, perhaps myopic portrait of madness personified. Continue reading
