Journey 2 (2012) The Mysterious Island [Blu-ray]

Yes, Journey 2 is a kids movie and sometimes big kids too with stylish CG sequences and beautifully realized cinematography. The plot is airy and only remotely touches on the inspiration of Jules Verne, and while the characters are merely cardboard cutouts of impressions of other people, the film entertains and that’s plenty for two hours on any island, especially The Mysterious Island. Michael Bay – Movie Mechanic

Michael Bay puts the hero out front, frames them in red white and blue propagandistic good will against a backdrop of burning buildings, world peace and humanity – you can almost hear the music rise to a resounding crescendo of unanimous magnanimity. You don’t have to like what Bay delivers but he does have a plan and there is a methodology and technical brilliance to what he does. Continue reading
