Twixt (2011)
“Twixt” is about dead-end roads and the distracted ambition of the travelers we find there in a makeshift world about middle grounds between dreams and the indecision of lost souls. We are invitees to the inky interiors of Coppola’s own perplexed life and the accumulated imaginings of his career. The result, while rewarding to Coppola aficionados and otherworldly adventurists, “Twixt” succeeds in ways and means that are simply not for everyone. Continue reading

Sherlock Holmes (2011) Blu-ray
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is pure stage play theatrics, a throw back to vaudeville of the late 19th century when it was high on adrenaline and sweat in the immediacy of shared space where physical humor was as much about what you felt as what you observed. Action packed and performance driven, this is melodrama as meaningfully playful to elicit response and collaboration, drawing us in as participant, voyeur and one. Continue reading

IMAX Hubble (2011) Blu-ray
In order to fully appreciate this movie it’s important to check your expectations at the door, relax and think of this movie as a little adventure for the junior astronomer inside you, for the universe enthusiast and Star Trek junkie you don’t admit to but can’t deny. This doesn’t mean you have to own a telescope or harbor a deep down appreciation for Tribbles, teleporters and tight tunics on your Sci-Fi action heroes, but it’s helpful if you take an active participation in the experience. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2011) Blu-ray
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a difficult film that weighs even on the most willing viewer, demanding from us the chance to arrive someplace entirely different from we expect but awful glad when we do. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is that film you hear about that cannot be summarized or categorized until you experience it yourself. Then and only then will you know how you feel about so much honesty. Continue reading
